Mi Hija Mexicana. Margarita Rodionova — a contemporary lens-based artist currently working in Cancun, Mexico

Mi Hija Mexicana

Mi hija Mexicana explores women in Cancún, Quintana Roo, who embody ancestral rituals, domestic magic, and Indian traditional practices passed down for generations. Through a symbolic and ethnographic approach, the project examines female archetypes — the mother, the mediator, the guardian of knowledge — and creates a collective, metaphorical portrait of womanhood existing between the everyday, the spiritual, and the inframundo.

This project is both visual storytelling and a personal dialogue with questions of identity, belonging, and memory. It reflects on how women act as vessels of continuity, bridging past and present, visible and invisible worlds.
